Befuddlr is another flickr mashup which turns your photos into puzzles. You can either upload your own photos or use the ones that are on their site. Is fun! Apparently they are working towards creating challenges and time trials and all that competitive stuff.

I thought that this was cool… it really appealed to my procrastination tendencies…  anyway… you type the lyrics, this site sings it… using words from famous songs that you will recognise… once again strangely addictive!

Splashr

I LOVE mashups so to find Splashr on Lesley’s blog made my day!

Splashr allows you to pick a set of photos - of your choice - from Flickr and make all sorts of fancy slide shows - with varying levels of interactivity. I made some examples using the key words “Paris” as we are planning a trip to Europe next year.

- click the tiny grey continue button to start then use the controls on the left hand side to play around…

If you would like examples of how this might be done in the classroom please click here to go to my other blog with a more education focus - I would hate to bore those of you just here for the technology with teacher talk!

And, because I couldn’t get enough of this site here is another one I made!

Google Video - Google Earth Mashup

This is an amazing mashup (even though I AM biased as I have a real thing for mashups of any kind!)

Anyway, this one combines a video - hosted on Google Video, taken by French film maker, Claude Lelouch when he strapped a video camera to a VERY fast Ferrari and had a Formula One driver drive it VERY fast round the streets of Paris first thing in the morning one day in the late 70s.  The cool part is the map that tracks the journey in real time.  Click here to watch and see what I mean…

I came across this site - yet another spinoff from the latest on-line mapping craze. Again, pushing the boundaries as to how much info we are providing about ourselves on-line. It is only available in America at the moment. But it allows you to enter information about yourself and post your location on a map of your street. You are then able to see the profiles of all of your neighbours around you… no more need for street parties I guess.

Another mashup, but this one I can see could actually be quite useful. It’s another mashup between Flickr and Google Maps. By clicking on any part of the map of the world it will return photos of that location. Check it out here.

Another mashup this time with Google Maps and Yahoo! news.  You navigate around a map of the world and click on a country.  The current news for that country come up for you to browse.  Click here to check it out.

Flickr Mashups

Just for fun, see what the real computer geeks spend their time doing these days…

A mash up is basically when someone writes a programme to make an existing programme run in a different way. It is the current ‘cool’ thing to do on the web. See what you think of some of these…

Spell with Flickr… Find images of letters to spell out whatever word you search for. Perfect for writing anonymous threat letters… Here’s what I came up with for my name. I like it!

T W N I          T W I S S

Colourpickr is a variation on Flickr… you pick a colour that you like and then the programme finds images with that exact colour range in them…  is fun to play with.

Flapr is another way of looking at Flickr photos - much more animated.  Once you have completed a search, spend some time hovering over all of the different parts of the page and you will see all of the information that is hidden within it.

Tagnautica is very cool for looking at the relationship between tags… it links images through the tags they have in common.  Kind of hard to explain but fun to play with.  Have a look.

Flickrvision is from the same people who created twittervision which I posted about earlier. It’s a mashup between Flickr and Google Maps . Once again very addictive! As photos are uploaded onto Flickr, you are shown exactly where in the world they were uploaded from.
