I LOVE this site - super cute.
They fold a virtual piece of paper for you and you snipity snip with your virtual scissors, then they open it up and viola your snowflake! Then you name it and they add it to the gallery.

Who thinks of this stuff anyway?!
Here is a very cool little game… can be played with one or two players. You get played a piece of music from a TV theme song and then have to guess which programme it comes from.
Well… this one is really here for my students! Basically, you upload a photo, cut out its mouth, add some sound and it makes the mouth move in time to the sound!

I am able to touch type
How fast can you type??? Check out this site and test yourself!
Someone from work forwarded me a link to this site. It is almost like an identikit creation site. I tried really hard to make a picture that looked like me but it really really doesn’t! I guess it just proves how different we all are and that even with 72 different options for mouth shape there are still lots missing!
You can see the face I made here (which looks nothing like me), I managed to capture and save as a PDF - not great I know but I really struggled to get it off the site.

I thought that this was cool… it really appealed to my procrastination tendencies… anyway… you type the lyrics, this site sings it… using words from famous songs that you will recognise… once again strangely addictive!

Sing This
I have been seeing this site pop up around the place for a while now but have never bothered to go there… today I went there and it is strangely addictive!
You are given a word and 4 possible meanings for that word. For every word you guess the correct meaning, 10 grains of rice are donated to Oxfam to go towards world hunger. Apparently it works through paying for the rice with the money generated through the advertising on each page.
Apparently yesterday there were over 123 million grains of rice donated… I wonder who counts it all
Why don’t you try it

This is a special post to all of my students who read this blog. For those of you studying right now, check out this site - quizlet. It is like flashcards, but all on line and much more clever - like it doesn’t ask you questions that you have already got right before. It is a way of learning facts and vocab before a test or exam.

If you think this is just a site that only a teacher would find interesting - you are wrong! It has been running for just over 2 years. Has OVER 65,000 users who have entered over 2,000,000 terms AND it was created by a 15 year old student who wanted a better way to learn his vocab. Very very cool. ALSO you can learn other students’ quizzes if you want a more random way to study for your French test…
Recently with my Level 3 Media Studies students (last year of high school here in NZ), we have been looking at the way governments advertise to effect social change - for better or for worse they decide.

Here is an interesting site called Eat Better America which I assume is similar to our 5+ a Day type campaigns. However, this site is very cool… you get to have a food fight with a character of your choosing - I chose a crazy canteen type woman who throws food at you and it splats all over your computer screen - but then runs around the page encouraging you to try and hit her with food… you get to pick up any food from the page and aim it at her… crazy!!! But funny!!! I guess it’s got novelty factor and in the mean time you are exposed to recipes that are ‘good for you’ and hopefully that you might consider making at home…
This is so cool - and addictive!
